 Emmylou Kotzé is a poet and writer from Mangaung, South Africa. The name of her birthplace translates as “The Place of the Cheetah,” which may help explain her lifelong fondness for mystic felines. Throughout high school and her university career, she wrote over a hundred poems, most of which you can find on her personal website, amphipolitan.com. While she was meant to be working on a geoscience doctorate in Germany, she wrote her debut novel, The Broken Knight. Her poem “Approaching Storm” was accepted for publication by On Spec Magazine in 2024. Recently she founded The Pink Hydra, Africa’s newest and weirdest webzine. Sources of inspiration for her writing include her working-class urban childhood, the ageless African landscape, and love in all its various manifestations.
