Fulvio Gatti is an ESL speculative fiction writer, cultural project manager, journalist and geek ambassador from the wine hills of Piemonte, Italy.
His short stories in English can be found in pro magazines (Galaxy’s Edge), anthologies by independent publishers, webzines and as podcasts in USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Europe, his story Who Smiles Last making the Tangent list. His first indie-published collection, The Record Store at the Edge of the Time Stream, available on all platforms, received good reviews, while his Italian novel Il Protocollo Scilla was a finalist at the Urania Award in 2021. With screenwriter Andrea Cavaletto he co-wrote the cybergore novelette Blue Sunset, also an independent movie by Domiziano Christopharo.
As an event creator, in Italy, he co-founded and hosted book and comic book festivals in Piemonte and Lazio. As a panelist he’s attended Worldcon Dublin (2019), DisCon III (2021) and the Nebula Conference (2022). A SFWA associate member since 2022, he is a two-time recipient of the Nebula Scholarship. In 2018 he was a student of Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta’s Superstars Writing Seminars and he’s currently part of the Apex Writing Group, founded by the late great David Wolverton.
As a journalist, in Italy, he’s been writing for local and national newspaper for about twenty years. He’s also a contributor for Locus. His nonfiction book I nerd salveranno il mondo (Nerds will save the word), Las Vegas Edizioni, and the following essays let him tour Italy as a speaker about geek culture, science fiction and innovation. He’s been working in the comic book industry, publishing the graphic novel Sturm und Drang (art by Patrizio Evangelisti) and as an editor and curator for the Italian editions of some of Scott McCloud’s books.
An advocate of life in small towns, he’s been a public servant for more than fifteen years, five of them as Deputy Mayor, later volunteering for two terms as the President of historical society Accademia di Cultura Nicese “L’Erca”. Even with many publications and cultural managing endeavors in his resume, all of it done under the careful watch of his wife Filomena, he still believes his best co-creation is their brilliant daughter Teresa.
